Mentoring Program

Each year new OLY families are introduced to an experienced OLY family who will serve as their mentor to help with questions and concerns regarding the swim program.  Family names, phone numbers, and email addresses will be given to each family via email, so that a contact can be made by either family when a concern or question arises.  Below are the expectations of a Mentor Family.

Responsibilities of Mentor:

1.     An initial contact from the mentor to give an introduction and warm welcome.

2.     One face to face contact prior to October.  This will allow families to know who you are if they have a question during meets or at a practice.

3.     The mentor must be available for questions or concerns throughout the year.

4.     The mentor must take the initiative to introduce the new family to the other members, seek them out at meets, call and or email them periodically to see if they have questions or concerns.  There must be a combination of formal, scheduled (measurable) contacts and informal relationship building throughout the year.

Requirements for a Mentor:

1.     The mentor should be an experienced OLY member (at least one year) with a record of volunteer participation.

2.     The mentor must commit to a full year and agree to and consistently maintain availability to the mentored and accountability to the Committee Chairpersons of the mentoring program.

3.     Initiative will be the responsibility of the mentor, not the family being mentored.

4.     Establish a primary effective means for communicating with the family being mentored.

5.     Contact the family you are mentoring at least one time per month.

Service Points:  Every family serving as a mentor for the year will receive 100 volunteer service points. (2006-2007)
