OLY Senior/National/HS Team
Community Service & Fundraising
Requirements
4/1/08 through 3/31/09

WELCOME back to our returning senior/national swimmers and a very WARM WELCOME to our new senior swimmers.  We know that all swimmers will be warmly welcomed by our extended OLY swim family and hope that your experience will be the same; fun, memorable and lots of fast swimming.

Our senior group has been re-organized for the long course season and it is with this letter that we hope to clarify most questions regarding community service and fundraising efforts.  All Senior Red and Blue swimmers, aged 13 and over, will be offered various community service events over the course of the year, now noted from 4/1/08 through 3/31/09.  All swimmers aged 13 & over will be held accountable for 5 community service/fundraiser activities combining both the long and short course season.  Adjustments will be made for swimmers joining the club at later dates in the season calendar year and if activities are cancelled due to reasons beyond our control.  A reward system is now in place for those swimmers achieving the goal of 5 community service/fundraiser activities.

Two of the main reasons for the requirement of community service/fundraisers are as follows:  a. giving back to our community that supports our program and b. fundraising to defer the costs of senior gifts/apparel/etc.  The idea of giving back to our community stems from OLY tradition and history.  Various community service projects, such as the technique clinics run by the senior swimmers, provides an opportunity for each of you to share your talents and be a role model for our younger OLY swimmers.  It is just like being part of a family when you hear your Mom or Dad say “your brother/sister looks up to you and/or they just want to be like you.”  The senior swimmers can have a huge impact on these younger swimmers and as part of OLY tradition, we expect your best.  Remember “to give anything less that your best is to sacrifice the gift.” (Steve Prefontaine)

In addition, many of you have received numerous gifts and significant generosity from your parents through their many hours of volunteering at meets, baking, pasta parties, etc.  The senior swimmers, each of you, is now being requested to “give back” some of your own time, enthusiasm and talent.  We are expecting you to watch for the e-mail notices and monitor the website to sign up for various activities.

For the ’08-‘09 season, we are again requesting 5 volunteer or service credits per swimmer.  Some past activities have included the Arts ‘n Apples parking lot duty, the bake sale of all bake sales and the infamous Car Wash. Most activities are worth one credit unless noted on the senior web page calendar or via e-mail. Many swimmers have also used these activities for school or National Honor Society commitments.  Please feel free to provide your forms to the parent reps and we will be happy to sign them as needed.

We will try to provide numerous opportunities so that all swimmers have an opportunity to volunteer their time.  If you sign up for an event, then it is expected for you to be there to receive the credit.  Records are kept and a running tally will be placed on the senior web page.  It is imperative for 100% participation on our fundraising efforts as you are the direct beneficiaries of these activities. If for any reason you are unable to make a scheduled event, please contact one of the senior reps ASAP.  We appreciate you being responsible individuals as well as terrific swimmers.

If you become aware of a volunteer activity that you feel would be good for our senior team, please contact a parent rep so we can investigate the idea.  Please consult this site frequently as updates will occur during the year.  OLY has built a great reputation and it is having swimmers such as you that make it this terrific!  These activities will not only be fun, but help you to prepare for the demands of life after high school.

Please e-mail your requests or concerns to one of the Senior Reps:
